This Yamazakura Asaka The First Peated is a delicious single malt produced by the Sasanokawa Shuzo distillery and released under their Yamazakura brand. It was created using peated spirit and matured for just over 3 years. Despite being a young whisky, it delivers with a range of compelling aromas and flavours, including gentle but building peat smoke. It’s a limited edition whisky of which only 2,000 bottles were produced.

Appearance: Almost straw, but slightly darker.

Nose: Pretty big peat, light iodine, campfire smoke, a bit of diesel. Honey, vanilla, caramel, citrus, and a hint of peach.

Palate: Sweet honey, campfire, a bit of iodine, vanilla, pepper.

Finish: Honey, peppery smoke.

With Water: Sweet honey and fruit come out.

Overall: Sweet and young. Still simple, but more interesting than the non-peated First
